Constructions of Chaos is de eerste tentoonstelling in de reeks Private Dimensions
van beeldend kunstenaar Bart Prinsen.

10 constructies. Zelf ontwikkelde projectiemachines, allen analoog.
Bart Prinsen bouwt en verbouwt projectoren met o.a. luchtbellen, rook, ...
Deze machines generen beelden die worden geactiveerd door de passant-toeschouwer. Ze staan, als een kluwen, letterlijk én figuurlijk met elkaar in verband: de beelden die ontstaan beïnvloeden elkaar én de ruimte, waardoor een bevreemdende dimensie ontstaat.

Uw private dimensie.

Voorbij de rationele geest die patronen opzoekt wordt een wereld gecreëerd tussen werkelijkheid en illusie. Een dimensie verschijnt tussen bewust en onbewust, tussen gedachte en beeld.

Het is een ruimte die zich opent tussen de projectie van een machine en de projecties van onze geest.

Constructions of Chaos is een onderdeel van een groter geheel van Private Dimensions. Het staat in relatie met minimum twee andere lopende projecten, die later op het jaar getoond zullen worden in Echo.Base

Constructions of Chaos is the first exhibition in the series Private Dimensions of visual artist Bart Prinsen.

10 constructions. Self developed projection machines, all analogue. Bart Prinsen builds and rebuilds projectors with air bubbles, smoke, ...
These machines generate images which are activated by the passerby-spectator.
They are literally and metaphorically connected with each other: the images that arise influence each other and influence the space, through which an alienating dimension opens up.

Your private dimension.

Beyond the rational mind which searches for patterns, a world opens in between reality and illusion. A dimension appears in between conscious and unconscious, thought and image.

It’s a space that opens up, somewhere in between the projection of a machine and the projections of our mind.

Constructions of Chaos is a part of a larger whole of Private Dimensions. It’s related with minimum two other projects in progress, that will be shown later on the year in Echo. Base

ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE, 8p.m. :

The enchanted ones (11 songs)
I am presenting here short fictional stories inspired by daily news in the
form of songs, very much in the style of popular songs of a bygone era,
where news items were orally transmitted. The songs are short with a
tormenting chorus and sung from the point of view of the interpreter : ‘I’,
therefore involving directly the character of the story.
I am interested in developing fragments of short stories, and experience
their ability to circulate within a popular context as well as how they settle
within the imaginary of the listener. The stories are deformed, therefore
diluting the authenticity of the tale, they mediate between the familiar and
the uncanny. Their rhythm corresponds to the one of nursery rhymes and
popular songs with a chorus. Agnès Geoffray

More than an artist talk it will be a pictures talk. The idea is to share my own archive, personal or found, which has built my present work. Create and show the link between these none artistic pictures and my own artistic work. Agnés Geoffray

Biography

Monali Meher, born in 1969, Pune. Graduated B.F.A. in painting from Sir J.J. School of Arts, Mumbai,1990. In 1998 she received ‘Unesco -Aschberg’ Residency in Vienna by Federal Chancellery for the Arts and Science researched the time and space factor, focus on process of decay, felt immense necessity to work with her own body, emotions as tool in public. In 1998 her first performance,”Reflect, A personal window display”, Jehangir art gallery in Mumbai with the statement “Nothing is permanent & it’s a nature’s law”.
In 2000-’01, accepted in Rijksakademie Van Beeldende Kunsten, funded by Dutch Ministry foreign Affairs & Nuffic, Huygens grant, Amsterdam for research residency. Her work has been published in books: Student Body by Marina Abramovic, Shifting Map, RAIN project by RABK, Third Text, “Love & Death”, Egon Schiele catalogue, Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam, “Cleaning the house”, NMAC foundation, Spain.
In 2006 Sep. she performed at Tate modern museum, London in Mapping Mumbai event & Dadao international performance festival in Beijing, China, Sinop Biennale Turkey.
In 2007, National review on live art, Glasgow. For last 9 years she has been working with performances, video, photography, Installations. Since year 2000, living and working in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

voor een verslag van het uitwisselingsproject

SANGISA SANGISA

Afgelopen winter is een groepje Belgische kunstenaars uitgenodigd naar Kinshasa voor het uitwisselingsproject SANGISA SANGISA. In het Lingala betekent 'sangisa' vermengen.
Daarmee is bedoeld de samenwerking tussen zwarte en blanke kunstenaars, de culturele uitwisseling en het interdisciplinaire karakter van het project.
Gedurende drie weken zijn we aan het werk geweest aan de Académie de Beaux-Arts de Kinshasa, een heel avontuur! We hebben workshops georganiseerd met voor Congolese kunstenaars onbekende technieken: papier scheppen, grafiek (houtsnede), artistiek vlechtwerk, keramiek (in een papieren oven gebakken), podcast; en mode-ontwerpen. De deelnemers zijn professionele kunstenaars of studenten van de académie.
De stad Kinshasa barst al jaren uit haar voegen; de bevolking verdubbelt regelmatig. Afrikaanse steden zijn aantrekkelijk voor plattelandsbewoners, er zijn betere voorzieningen, maar het leven is er hard. Sommige dingen zijn er heel ingewikkeld, maar andere heel eenvoudig. Yvonne Knevels.

Ils se sont retrouvés autour d'une simple idée qui consiste à faire reconquérir la dignité d'un artiste à travers le monde.
Ce sont des artistes occidentaux et de la diaspora congolaise. Ils sont venus à Kinshasa qu'avec leurs cours pour échanger avec leurs collègues congolais à l'Académie des Beaux Arts durant le mois de décembre 2006 jusqu'en janvier 2007. Au menu, le développement par l'art. Des ateliers se sont organisés en diverses branches : à la céramique avec Pascaline Wollast, le papier artisanal avec Els Brodelet et Eddy Devolder, le stylisme de fibre avec Tatiana Bohm et Marcel Bahatika, à la Vannerie avec Yvonne Knevels, à la production d'images multiples avec Michel Barzin et à la médiatisation (vidéo et son sur Internet) avec Sylvain Bayart. Le tout sous la coordination de l'artiste congolais de la diaspora, Aimé Mpané.

En plus, il y a même eu un stage pour enfants dans les différentes disciplines précitées.
Au finish, le travail fournit par les uns et les autres a été fort apprécié. Chacun y est allé avec sa conscience professionnelle sans attendre une rétribution de qui que ce soit. Le coordinateur Aimé Mpané explique : " L'outillage pour la fabrication des ouvres d'art devenant de plus en plus cher, il s'est avéré possible d'en faire à moindre coût à partir des objets ramassés et recyclés. Kinshasa regorgeant des amas de détritus à travers ses rues, il est possible de les transformer de manière à produire des ouvres d'art de valeur. C'est sur cette base que le partage des connaissances s'est déroulé entre artistes du nord et du sud. "

Le papier pour le four
Une vingtaine d'années de carrière révolue, Mme Pascaline Wollast, céramiste et sculpteur de son état, a partagé son expérience avec les jeunes congolais. " Le travail dans un four pour la cuisson de nos produits peut valoir 100 us dollars à un céramiste. Ce qui n'est pas évident pour tous. Pour pouvoir rentabiliser, il est possible de ramasser les papiers jetés dans les rues pour un four artisanal qui donne un bon résultat en si peu de temps. " Le céramiste et stagiaire congolais, Bopol Bope ne jure plus que cette technique. " Avec le four à papier, je n'ai rien à dépenser. Seulement, il faut utiliser que des pièces moins épaisses pour un meilleur rendement. " Quant au maraconier de Bruxelles, Marcel Bahatika, il a travaillé avec les étudiants de l'Institut supérieur des arts et métiers sur la création des objets en cuir. Du papier des poubelles, les stagiaires sont arrivés à fabriquer du papier artisanal de bonne qualité. Tout comme à partir des feuilles d'avocatier, les stagiaires ont fabriqué le papier végétal artistiquement apprécié de tous.
De quoi démontrer que l'ouverture vers l'autre peut nous sortir de la pauvreté tant physique que morale.
